Obituary

Sis Betty Lee White was born December 15, 1951 in Hampton County, South Carolina to the late 

Adam Whitney, Jr. and the late Rosa Lee Capers-Whitney. Betty attended Estill Training School, Class of 1969. She joined St. Mark A.M.E. Church, Garnett, S.C. in 1970 where she served both her church and the A.M.E. Church Organization faithfully, until her death. 

 

As a member of St. Mark A.M.E. Church, she served as Class Leader, Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, local Lay President, Church Secretary, Church Treasurer, Stewardess Protem, Pastor Aide Board, Senior Choir member, and Junior Choir director.

 

She has served in various capacities throughout the Beaufort District, The Seventh Episcopal District Lay Organization (SELDO) and the South Carolina Conference Lay Organization (SCCLO). She was appointed as the Beaufort District Lay Organization’s President from September 1995 to September 2003. She was then re-elected as the District’s president in November 2021. 

 

Sis. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Adam Whitney, Jr. and Rosa Lee Capers-Whitney and a son, Daniel White, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory four devoted daughters: Christine Gaston (Christopher), Donna Davis (Rodney), Sabrina Danielle White (Patrick), all of Columbia S.C. and Shelia White of Rincon, Georgia. Siblings: Juanita Scott, Penny Wright, and Adam Whitney, lll, all of Springfield, Mass. Eight grandchildren: Thaddeus, Brandon, Ethan, Alana, and Ansaari, all of Columbia, South Carolina, Ariana of Rincon, Georgia, Alexandria of Statesboro Georgia, and Alex of Springfield, Georgia, two special friends: Laura Youmans and Deloris Bryant, a dear neighbor: Tiffany Miller, and a host of other relatives and friends. 

Betty White, 71 of Estill, SC went from labor to reward on February 19,2023.
