Life’s Journey
1952 ~ 2023
Charles Isiah Brown Sr. or “Don / Funky Don” as he was affectionately called, was born in Hampton, South Carolina to Frank and Wilhelmina Brown on August 23, 1952.
He was a 1971 graduate of Wade Hampton High School, Varnville, South Carolina.
In his young adult life he was employed by Thomas Lawton’s Masonry as a brick layer under the leadership of his brother Frank
”Sunny” Brown. He also worked at Westinghouse Electric, WBHC, WDOG and Brunson Auto Sales before retiring from Rizer’s Chevrolet of Walterboro, South Carolina. He was well known for DJing all across the state of South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lena Davis; brothers, James, Richard and Frank Jr.
He leaves his legacy to live on with his family as they celebrate his memories. His world, his sunshine, his pride and joy, his daughter, Miaaka S. Brown of Orangeburg, South Carolina; his one and only son, Charles I. Brown, Jr. of Varnville, South Carolina; his grand- children, Randejia, Randell, Ranajia and Charles III; a devoted friend, Annie Smith of Varnville, South Carolina; brother, Larry Brown of Early Branch, South Carolina; two sisters, Frankie (James ) Gordon of Garnett, South Carolina and Willie Mae Stokes of Early Branch, South Carolina; sister-in- law, Wilhelmina Brown of Early Branch, South Carolina; two aunts, Albertha Alford and Mary Picknett-Young; one who was reared as his own, Cedric (Monica) Johnson of Charlotte, North Carolina; two adopted grands, Benny and Brayden Mitchell of Varnville, South Carolina; an a host of Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and friends.
Charles “Funky Don” Brown 70, of Early Branch, SC passed away on June 19, 2023.
