A Life to Be Remembered
Evangelist Helen Jones Jenkins, 99, peacefully entered eternal rest on June 23, 2018; at 711 Holly St. Hampton, SC. where she was being cared for by her Sister, Ms. Charlotte Carr.
Mrs. Jenkins was the daughter of the late Mr. Ralph and Josephine Allen Jones. Helen was baptized at First Estill Baptist Church in her youth by the Pastor. She was active in the Church Sunday School, sung on the Church Choir, served on the Usher Board and various other capacities.
Helen moved from Estill to Yonkers, New York in the early 1950’s. While in Yonkers; Helen attended Community Baptist Church where she was active in Sunday School; sung as Lead singer on the Choir, served on the Usher Board; and organized a Gospel Group; “The Gospeletts of Yonkers N.Y.
After living for many years in Yonkers, Helen left and moved to Fairbank, Alaska where she attended the Corinthian Baptist Church. Helen served faithfully in various capacities and was ordained as an Evangelist to preach the Gospel and as A Prayer Minister.
Helen left Alaska and returned to Estill, S.C in 1982. She was reunited with the First Estill Baptist Church. Helen served faithfully in the church in various capacities, the Missionary Society, a prayer band, and she organized a vocal Group in Estill.
Shortly after returning home and serving actively in the church; Helen met and married Deacon Otis Jenkins in 1985. They purchased a home in Estill on Honey Hill where they lived until Deacon Jenkins passed away. Helen’s health began to decline after her husband’s departure; Helen attended Day Care for 2 years. She was in poor health for several months, but never complained: she bore her illness patiently, and would say, “I’ll be ready when the Lord calls me” She will be missed by the family and by all who knew her. She has left a living example of loving service, worthy of emulation which should bring some comfort to her loving Sister Charlotte who did all she could for Helen’s Comfort, and to prolong her life if possible. But when the sun of life reaches its highest point, with the brightness of a well spent life, when the passing comes, we can only say that a beautiful life has ended.
Helen leaves to cherish her memory, Two Sisters Charlotte Carr of Hampton, SC and Mrs. Carrie (Lawrence) Reynolds of Savannah, GA, and a sister in love, Ms. Beulah Jones. A host of nieces, nephews and loved ones. Special thanks to the First Estill Church family.
