Lawrence Hale Obituary

Lawrence H. Hale, a proud veteran of the Army, passed away on August 28, 2022, at home of natural causes.

The son of Bernard and Mavis, Lawrence grew up in Oceanside, New York.  He was born September 19, 1948, in the Bronx, New York, and attended Oceanside High School, until he was no longer welcome due to a science experiment gone horribly wrong!  As a result, obtaining a GED instead.

At the age of 19, Lawrence enlisted in the Army and immediately served two tours in Vietnam, where he participated in the TET offensive. As part of this service, he received several decorations such as the Army Commendation medal for displaying acts of heroism, The Army Superior Unit Award, the Good Conduct Medal for exemplary behavior, efficiency, and fidelity during active duty, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, and the Vietnam Service Medal with five Service Stars.

He highly valued this service so he became a career soldier serving 27 years overall, 16 as a medical Non-Commissioned Officer, and the remaining 11 years as military police.  He officially retired from the military in 1993 but still worked closely with the military as a civilian contractor for the DoD.

His final years were spent at the property he loved in Jasper County, SC.  He enjoyed fishing in his pond, tinkering with his boats, and making handmade fishing poles for himself and his family.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Ann Hale in 1990 with whom he had 2 children.  He is survived by his son, Lawrence H. Hale II, daughter-in-law Donna and grandson Daniel Hale his daughter, Chrystie L. Turner, son-in-law Patrick and grandchildren Logan and Brooke Turner.  Also surviving Lawrence is his sisters Francine Cantero and Karen Hale, as well as his 2 nephews Adam Greene and Ben Lowe.
