Obituary

Leontyne “Tyne” Washington Brown, daughter of the late Mr. Nathaniel and Leola Washington, was born February 20, 1952 in Hardeeville, SC. She attended Matthew E. West High School, Hardeeville, SC. She was a member of St. Stephen A.M.E. Church where she joined at an early age. Those who knew Tyne knew she was a genuine person who spoke her mind, loved her family, enjoyed being in the company of friends, and wasn’t shy in telling people that she loved them. She has left a legacy of love that will forever remain.
On Monday, March 27, 2023, our beloved “Tyne” transitioned from life to eternal peace. Leontyne was preceded in death by her parents Nathaniel and Leola Washington, brother Madison Washington, and sister Audrey Ann Washington.
Leontyne leaves to cherish her memories: her sons (whom she affectionately referred to as “My Boyz”) Dwayne “Charlie” Brown, Atlanta GA, Steven K. (Andrea) Brown, Ridgeland, SC, William “Billy” Townsend, III, San Antonio, Texas, and James “Artie” Townsend, Hardeeville, SC, Gerrard Wilson, Charleston, SC, loving grand-children Kashif Grant, Naudica Mitchell, Aaron Grant, James Townsend, II, Jamal Townsend, Amaya Townsend, Leighla Townsend, Artiyanna Townsend, Jeremiah Rivers Brown and Ashton Brown, great-grand daughter
Indigo Grant; brother and devoted sister-in-law James & Jo Ann Washington, Hardeeville, SC; a loving niece also considered a sister, Phyllis Ann Bass and loving niece Darlene Renee Washington, both of Atlanta, GA, loving niece Rev. Alicia (Richard, Jr.) Coleman, Hardeeville, SC, Malaika Washington, Woodbridge, Virgina;
nephews, Dietrich Washington, Woodbridge, Virgina, Derek
Washington, Baltimore, MD, sister-in-law Millie Washington, Woodbridge, Virgina; special aunts Ethel Linen, Hardeeville,
SC, and Beatrice Glover, North Carolina; special friends
Barbara Stiney, Rhonda Cradle, both of Hardeeville, SC;
God-daughters, Sheila Mitchell, Hardeeville, SC, Marcenia
Jenkins, Washington, DC., CaRee Cradle, and Elizabeth “Lizzy” Adewusi (Grand-niece), both of Hardeeville, SC, great number of
nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and
friends. Tyne always said she wanted a girl,
and considered Elaine “Niki” Cradle, who
preceded her in death March 26, 2021, as
her daughter.

Leontyne Brown 71, of Hardeeville transitioned March 27,2023 at Memorial Hospital in Savannah, Ga.
