Mr. Willie James Brown, Sr., affectionately called “Minus,” was born on December 12, 1934. He was raised by his adopted mother, Mrs. Minnie Beasley; his father was Mr. Frank Brown, Sr. Minus attended the public schools of Beaufort County. Minus was united in Holy Matrimony to Ruth Bentley, and they shared many loving years together. From this union, six children were born. Ruth, along with two of their children, Willie James Brown, Jr. and Hattie Mae Brown, preceded him in death.
Minus was a longtime employee of Atlantic Wood Industries in Savannah, Georgia, where he faithfully provided for his family for over 40 years before retiring. He later met and married Eula Mae Brown, and together they blended their families from previous marriages. Mae, as she was affectionately called, preceded him in death in 2020.
Minus accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior, was baptized, and joined First African Missionary Baptist Church on March 6, 1988, where he served and attended faithfully until his health declined.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He cherished spending quality time with his family. On Thursday, March 19, 2026, Brother Minus heard the Master call, “Come unto me and I will give you rest; lay down thy weary one, lay down thy head upon my breast.” Celebrating his life and honoring his memory, he leaves to cherish his legacy his surviving children: Joseph Brown and Bennie Brown (Albertha) of Hardeeville, South Carolina; Evelyn Fields (Ezekiel) of Hardeeville, South Carolina; Eleanor Clark (Craig) and Harriette Cummings (Antonio), both of Savannah, Georgia; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; one special grandchild, Elliton Brown; four siblings: Frank Brown, Jr. of Ridgeland, South Carolina; Shirley Parker (Milton), Wilson Brown, and Ernest Brown, all of Savannah, Georgia; one sister-in-law, Eardell Johnson of Jersey City, New Jersey; two brothers-in-law, Otis Bentley of Hardeeville, South Carolina, and Tyrone Griffin, Sr. of Atlanta, Georgia; one godson, Leroy Bentley; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
